Exceptional performance at any level

Fluid Technology was developed by First Degree Fitness to create Variable Fluid Resistance in rowing machines and ergometers, giving fingertip control of resistance from “feather light” to “Olympic sprint”.

This patented Fluid Technology is at the heart of every piece of First Degree Fitness equipment, delivering silky smooth resistance to the user’s effort and instantaneous response to input with no “flat spots”.

The range of variability is genuinely huge, and can satisfy the needs of all users from the smallest lightweights to elite heavyweight athletes.

Apply the effort and the correct resistance is there instantly – every time.

WATER -  NATURE’S PERFECT RESISTANCE MEDIUM

Water has unique “cube rule” physical properties, which mean that to go twice as fast requires 8 times the effort!

Competitive rowers knows the feel of the cube rule, and just how tough it can be to squeeze that tiny extra bit of speed out of the boat in the race to the line.

Any increase in exercise intensity is instantly met by a corresponding increase in resistance.

Fluid Technology provides full ”cube rule” resistance, in an instant, always there for you at the precise moment you want it! Fluid Technology further enhances this by providing infinite variation of the resistance range by varying the volume of water against which the user works. Fluid Technology also supplies the most consistent linear resistance system available. There is no slack, no slippage, and no “flat spots”, common to other designs of water and wind resistance mechanisms making First Degree Fitness rowers and ergometers the top in their class.

First Degree Fitness rowing machines give you the nearest thing to real on-water rowing.

HOW IT WORKS

Two chambers are contained within one tank. The inner (passive) chamber stores water. Rotating impeller paddles act on water in the outer (active) chamber to provide the necessary resistance to the user’s effort.

Moving the level indicator varies the level of water in each chamber. Maximum resistance occurs when the greatest volume of water is in the outer (active) chamber.

The inner chamber purely provides passive storage of water. The position of the indicator determines the relative levels between the two chambers. The complete system holds 8 litres of water.

Level 1

Minimum Resistance

Most water in inner (passive) chamber

Level 8

Medium Resistance

Water levels equal between chambers

Level 16

Maximum Resistance

Most water in outer (active) chamber
